The La Garita Arch can be reached by various means. One can either drive to the base and enjoy a scenic view of the arch or hike to the parking lot. For a moderate climb, try hiking from the parking lot to the La Garita Arch. The climb rewards you with a breathtaking view of the east and west.
Directions
To get to the La Garita Arch from Del Norte, follow Oak Street north and then continue northeast on Route 112 for about 16 miles. Turn left onto Grand Avenue (also known as County Road 33). The pavement ends quickly, but the road remains well-graded and smooth. After about 4 miles, turn left onto County Road A32 and go for approximately 4 miles. The road starts to get rough around the 3.5-mile point. From the 4-mile point, turn right onto County Road 35 and follow it for 1.1 miles to reach the La Garita Arch..
If the road is too rough for your vehicle, park and hike the 1.1 miles to the base of the arch.
Route
It’s only a 0.1 mile climb with a 195 feet ascent to reach the arch from the parking lot. The view from the arch is worth the climb..
